Kevin Wing
Fremont native Kevin Wing is the original master of ceremonies of the Fremont
4th of July Parades, and in 2009, he is proud and grateful to mark his 11th year
as an emcee of the always-popular annual event. Kevin's family moved to
Fremont in the summer of 1963, and they've been a mainstay of the community
since. First choosing the city's Irvington District in which to live, Kevin's
family eventually settled in the Mission San Jose District, residing there for
nearly 40 years. Kevin graduated from Mission San Jose High School,
later receiving Associate in Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees from Ohlone
College and San Jose State University, respectively. Working in television news
for the last 23 years, Kevin has been a news and feature reporter, news
producer, writer, assignment manager, special projects producer and news anchor
for various Bay Area television stations, including KTVU in Oakland and KGO-TV
and KRON, both in San Francisco. He has also served as a field producer for ABC
News and CNN. He is currently with KNTV/NBC Bay Area in San Jose. Kevin has
received numerous honors for his work, including two regional Emmy awards.
Outside of the Bay Area, his reports have also appeared on TV stations in Los
Angeles, San Diego and Eureka, and have also been featured nationally on CNN and
Fox News. His love of travel is about to spawn two new TV and podcast series,
"Catch a Wave" and "Suite Surrender", of which he will host. "Catch a Wave"
debuts this summer, and "Suite Surrender" will premiere in 2010. Kevin is also
hoping to have his first children's book published in 2011. Always a big
fan of parades, Kevin was tapped in 1997 to serve as emcee of the Mission San
Jose Bicentennial Parade, which celebrated the 200th anniversary of the founding
of the 14th California mission in the chain of 21 Spanish missions. That
experience led him to begin emceeing Fremont's 4th of July Parades in 1999, a
role he has held since. Kevin and his siblings are proud sponsors of
the 2009 Fremont 4th of July Parade, in loving remembrance of their parents,
Lawrence and Helene Wing.
